TAMASHII NATIONS UNVEILS NEWEST ENTRIES IN S.H. FIGUARTS COLLECTION

Earlier this week, Bandai and Tamashii Nations announced the newest figures due out for release in August and September. Among the newest additions to this long line of praised figures include the long-awaited release of Kamen Rider Blade, Kamen Rider Scissors, Space Sheriffs Sharivan and Shaider, and Ryuranger and Kibaranger from Gosei Sentai Dairanger. As a special bonus for fans, Ryuranger will come with pieces that can be attached to his helmet that can make him China Red. This is a nod to his recent cameo appearance in Toei's popular parody series Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2. As for Kibaranger, it is expected that he will get a US release as the White Ranger from the second season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

THREE MORE JOIN KAMEN RIDER BATTRIDE WAR

Once again, Namco Bandai's official blog for the upcoming PS3 action game Kamen Rider Battride War announced three returning actors on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday respectively. This week, Toei confirmed that Tak Sakaguchi will reprise his role as the villainous Cassis Worm from Kamen Rider Kabuto. However, also hailing from Kamen Rider Kabuto is Yuki Sato, reprising his famous role as Kagami Arata/Kamen Rider Gattack. Finally, Toei saved the best for last by announcing that Toshiki Kashu will return once again as Shouichi Tsugami/Kamen Rider Agito!

Most of the actors in this game recorded their dialogue at the same time that dialogue was recorded for the Wii fighting game Kamen Rider: Super Climax Heroes, which means we should expect more actors who returned for that game to appear here as well. Yesterday, Namco Bandai also finally announced that Kamen Riders Fourze, Accel, and Beast will all be playable characters.

DAISUKE SHIMA RETIRES

The man best known for playing Yusuke Amamiya/Red Falcon from the classic Super Sentai Choujuu Sentai Liveman announced this week that after 32 years, he will be retiring from show business. Daisuke Shima was a popular idol in the 1980s when he took the role that would make him famous among toku fans, not only did he play the leader but he also sang the opening and ending themes for the show. Daisuke Shima reprised this role 13 years later in Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger Vs. Super Sentai. He also played Captain Harumitsu Miura of EYES  in Tsuburaya Production's popular series Ultraman Cosmos and the two films that followed. Shima was last seen in last year's TV movie Onsen okami futari no jikenbo: ehime dôgo onsen 5.7.5 no satsujin.

R.I.P. TOSHIAKI NISHIZAWA (1936-2013)

NOTE: This was reported on April 16th, but unfortunately I forgot to include it in last week's rundown.

Notable toku character actor Toshiaki Nishizawa passed away on April 11th from lung cancer. Toku fans may actually be able to recognize him from three notable roles. He is best known to Western audiences for playing Kubota, the mustachioed right-hand man to the villainous Chairman in Godzilla Vs. Gigan. However, he is also well known for playing Space Commander Qom in Uchu Keiji Gavan and the two sequel shows Uchu Keiji Sharivan and Uchu Keiji Shaider. He recently reprised this role twice: once for the 2006 PS2 action game The Space Sheriff Spirits, and then again for last year's new film Uchu Keiji Gavan: The Movie. Finally, he played the alien Garia, who gives our hero his powers, from the first two episodes of Toei's infamous 1978 production of Spider-Man. He was 77 years old.
